Social Media: Are you guilty of “Set and Forget”??

Inlumino Communications - maximising social mediaIf you’re running a social media campaign, there is a strong likelihood that you are using a social media scheduling software such as HootSuite. I do. It’s a fantastic way of scheduling content AND monitoring AND interacting online. If you are just setting updates and forgetting about your platforms you are doing yourself a great disservice! Social media, is not just about blasting out updates once their published on your blog or other parts of your website. It is ALL about monitoring AND interacting. Anyone that comes across a brand’s platform and only discovers continual updates from the company has no reason to trust you enough to want to follow you. Where’s the fun? Where’s the engagement? Where’s the sharing of information and sharing of others’ updates?

Those just setting and forgetting and thinking they are managing social media are kidding themselves.

Sure I schedule tweets, Facebook updates and LinkedIn posts for clients. BUT I also check in on those platforms three times a day. During those times, I look for other brands and information, share them if they’re relevant and engage with those brands on behalf of clients. The search function embedded in most platforms and available through third party software such as HootSuite make finding and interaction with brands and content so easy. If you’re not using all of these functions then you are definitely not using Social Media as it was intended and doing your brand a HUGE disservice. Clients, Customers, and Competitors alike want you to engage.  Facebook page managers wold have noticed that quick responses to comments on posts are now being rewarded. It makes sense to reward good customer service: When a Page has a high response rate, this information is displayed publicly to visitors alongside a green messages icon right below the Cover photo on the left-hand side of the screen. So please. Schedule posts as much as you like, but ensure that your social media efforts aren’t in vain and invest the time in interaction online. They don’t call it SOCIAL media for nothing.
